Join two of the country’s best-loved cartoon characters in this Gallic inspired theme park! The blonde bearded Astérix and his rotund companion, Obelix are, of course, the main features of the park, and kids of all ages will delight at meeting the characters in person, whilst also exploring the five different worlds within the park.

Children and adults alike will enjoy riding the Tonnere de Zeus, the largest wooden roller coaster in the continent, and taking part in various ‘Astérix inspired’ activities, such as climbing aboard a Viking longboat, or pretending to be a Roman spy and creeping into the camp of the Gauls!

Looking for a place to stay? Try Camping Paris Est, which not only gives you relatively easy access to the park, but also offers great proximity to the capital itself.

Disneyland Paris

Of course, if you’re staying in the Paris region, a visit to Disneyland Paris is an absolute must. It is a fairytale experience without equal, and also officially ranks as the country’s largest theme park. Visitors can explore the five magic regions, including Adventureland, Discoveryland and Fantasyland, whilst meeting some of Disney’s most iconic characters.

There are a huge number of rides in the park, ranging from the relatively gentle to the more exhilarating, making it a great option for young and older children alike. Indeed, few visitors can resist the magical charm of the experience, which is why it is consistently rated as one of the finest attractions in the country. It is only a few kilometres from Paris; so once again, staying at Camping Paris Est is a great option.

If you’re staying in the Cȏte d’Azur, then taking time out to visit Marineland is well worth the effort, particularly if you’re travelling with children. The water-themed park offers quite a different experience to your average aquarium, boasting a wide range of aquatic creatures, including sizeable sharks, orcas and polar bears.

On site, there is also a Water Splash Park for kids to cool off whilst under the hot sun, and an animal park, filled with friendly farm animals.

Les Prairies de la Mer Campsite is a wonderful place to stay whilst in the Cȏte d’Azur, offering good proximity to Marineland, not to mention several of the best beaches in the area.

Futuroscope, based just outside Poitiers, is the perfect choice for older children, particularly techno-savvy teens. The park, dubbed a ‘city of the future’, is a celebration of all things futuristic and technological, with gigantic 3D cinema screens, interactive displays and all manner of strange, immersive experiences, guaranteed to have even the most bored teenager enthralled!

The ‘Future is Wild’ area shows interactive scenarios about how species evolved, and The ‘Little Prince’ attraction uses sensory elements such as noise, vibration and even soap bubbles to create a unique, otherworldly experience, not unlike a dream.

If you’re searching for somewhere to stay in the area, then Le Jard campsite provides a good base, whilst also offering an excellent location on the coast.

If you thought history was boring, you’ve clearly never visited France’s famous Puy de Fou! The remarkable theme park, only an hour’s drive from Nantes, boasts a crew of over a thousand actors, who work together to create astounding shows, in the heart of the surrounding ancient woodland. Kids will be rapt at the sight of Vikings, plundering a village, and performances from the Musketeers themselves, and after the shows, visitors are free to wander the area, which offers a unique glimpse through time, with medieval streets and 18th century villages.

Camping Clarys Plage is only a short drive from Puy de Fou, and is also a great spot for families, with a neighbouring water park and of course, access to the beach.

Space City

If you’ve got kids who are obsessed with everything space-themed, then this is most definitely the right theme park for you. The theme park focuses on providing information in a fun, interactive way, with a large number of attractions for children, including a special Children’s Base. Train to be an astronaut whilst here, or have a go at walking whilst weightless, to get an experience of life as a genuine space-man!

There is also a replica of the famous Mir Space Station for astro-obsessive children to explore, and a planetarium to observe the stars and planets in the skies above us.

Space City is situated inland, close to Toulousse, but if you’re looking for a spot to stay that incorporates the beach with your visit, then La Val de Cesse makes a great option.
