Announcing The Cycling Route Winner! - Al Fresco Holidays

Recently we ran a competition to give away some top of the range cycling equipment. All you had to do to be in with a chance of winning was send us a Google Map of your favourite cycling route.  That’s it! Up for grabs were a Suunto Ambit2 Sapphire GPS Watch (worth £450), a Dogcam Bullet HD 2 1080p Camera (worth £199), and a FWE Home Mechanic 23 Piece Tool Kit (worth £99). We’ve sifted through the entries, made a few tough decisions, and it’s time to announce the winners.

First up, in third place, is Martin Kistell, who wins a FWE Home Mechanic 23 Piece Tool Kit to keep his bike in tip top shape. Martin’s route is a simple one, covering almost 16 miles outside Huddersfield. The route leverages the A62 to get you out into the countryside quickly, before winding past Butterley and Redbrook Reservoirs, through the Standedge tunnel and across the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. Excellent stuff. If you want to have a go at Martin’s route you can find the Google Map here.

Second place goes to Gemma Phillips, who wins a Dogcam Bullet HD 2 1080p Camera! Gemma’s route from West Byfleet to Godalming follows the meandering path of the river Wey, through quiet paths and green space including Woodbridge Meadows and Shalford Park. While it’s not a circular route you could get the train back from Godalming Station, which is another five minutes from the end of the route, or spend the night and head back the next day after exploring a bit further. It’s a great route, and you can find it here.

That just leaves first place. Congratulations go to Andy Hayes, the deserved winner of a Suunto Ambit2 Sapphire GPS Watch. Andy’s beautifully scenic route starts on the outskirts of Manchester, looping through Sale, over the Bridgewater Canal, then heading into the countryside to take in Lymm Dam and Broadoak Wood. Andy’s even thoughtfully marked a coffee and cake shop about a third of the way in for the ideal pit stop! Give it a try, it’s a wonderful route worthy of first place, and you can find it here.

So that wraps up our prize winners. Hopefully looking at these routes has inspired you to get out in the saddle and explore your local area. Congratulations once more to all our winners, and thanks to everyone for entering. Don’t forget to keep your eyes on the blog for more competitions in the future.
