Al Fresco Holiday’s Easter Competition winner reviews La Rive - Al Fresco Holidays

Tim Bryant won a holiday with his family to our La Rive parc in June with our Easter competition. Check out what he got up to and what he thought of the parc in his review below:
We left for La Rive on 1st June 2012 for the half term break. Having picked the children up from school, and with the car loaded up with the roof box and bikes, we were ready to travel from Devon to Bordeaux via the Eurotunnel. The journey, although over a 1000 km’s (each way), was an easy one with the sat nav. We had several planned stops, in car DVD’s, ipods etc..and plenty of Euro’s for the toll roads. As we headed further and further south the outside temperature was rising and by the time we arrived at Biscarosse it was in the 30′s.

The site was well sign posted and easy to find. We checked in at reception and soon found our Al Fresco Holidays rep, Karen. The mobile home was brand new and we were the first people to stay in it. The bonus for us all was that it had a TV and we were able to catch up with the very wet Queen’s Jubilee celebrations in the UK, whilst sunning ourselves at La Rive.

La Rive was clean and tidy and well laid out. It had a fantastic restaurant, take away, shop, cycle hire etc… all on site. Whilst my wife unpacked, I took the children to the pool complex. Slides, lazy river, toddler water park and wave pool were a pleasing sight for the four children who were all struggling a little with the heat – acclimatising from the dismal weather at home that we had left behind. Once unpacked we headed off to the local Euromarche and stocked up on food, wine and treats to return for a BBQ chez nous!

Day two was slightly more stressful as our eldest son managed to knock himself out whilst in the pool. The life guard was very professional, and quickly an ambulance arrived and he was transferred to the local hospital on a stretcher board and in a neck collar for X rays and treatment. All very dramatic, but fortunately he was OK and discharged later that day with mild concussion and instructions to take it easy for a few days. The E111 came into it’s own.

The rest of the week passed by in a relaxing haze of spending time on the lake (on site) fishing, kayaking, swimming in the pools and cycling around the local area. The site was very quiet as it was early in the season and mainly there were English families also on half term. The children often had the pool to themselves. They made lots of friends and enjoyed the freedom of the site and play areas.

We visited the Dune de Pyla – the largest sand dune in Europe – that was awesome. The children enjoyed running up and down and we sat and watched the paragliders.

The children are all keen to return again, especially because we hear that they are building a big water park on site for Summer 2013.

I would like to add that Karen was the kindest, friendliest rep we have ever met, going out of her way to ensure that all was good for us throughout our stay. She was a mind of information. My wife was also unwell and she sorted out a fan, the doctors contact details etc and was so sweet. But despite having a few unexpected hiccups along the way with accidents and illness we were not put off at all and would definitely return. Also would fully recommend Al Fresco Holidays as from start to finish the booking process and stay was easy, pleasant and seamless.
