A Canoeing Adventure in Le Val de Bonnal - Al Fresco Holidays

Isabella tells us about her adventures whilst canoeing on her Al Fresco holiday at Le Val de Bonnal campsite in the Jura region of France.

Today I’ve canoed about 8km, been towed another 5km and have just delighted the ears of my family with a rendition of ‘Doh a Deer’ played on beer bottles. What an exciting day!!

I must say, the canoeing will not be the highlight of my holiday. The idea itself is great and I’m sure some people would find it brilliant and to be honest for the first half an hour, I quite enjoyed myself. But after that it began to feel like we were paddling through syrup, and I mean SERIOUSLY thick syrup! Another 6km on, my boat buddy (?!) aka. Alex, decided to steer us in the direction of a bush. Actually, no. It was more of a full-on tree. During this, er, experience, my head got wedged inbetween my knees, due to the fact that my skull was being crushed by a rather large branch. Adding to this slight problem, Alex seemed to think it was acceptable at this stage to remove himself from the boat, causing floods of water to come crashing into the back. So to stop any major disasters taking place (and I mean repeat of the Titanic) I attempted to lean to the side, but with my head caught in a branch and stuck between my knees, it wasn’t the easiest of tasks. We must have looked so stupid, which isn’t surprising to be honest…
In short, we almost died but were rescued by our sympathetic (pah!!) parents and towed to the safety of the campsite. I was wet and cold so I decided to have an ice cream, which is what everyone does when they’re cold…

This evening has been much more laid back but I can’t be bothered writing about it. We made musical bottles. It was fun. The end – for the moment at least…
