Things to do whilst staying at La Croix du Vieux Pont - Al Fresco Holidays

Our Al Fresco rep, Caroline, from the La Croix du Vieux Pont campsite, tells us about the exciting days out you can look forward to on your Al Fresco holiday at the Parisian campsite.

Hello from Paris,

Some of the main attractions include; the fairy tale Château de Pierrefonds, Disneyland Paris, Champagne tasting, Park Asterix, markets, fishing, Parc Canopy (tree assault course), many things to do with WW1, the indoor shopping outlet of ‘Val de Europe’, with a Sealife centre in the middle and of course, Paris itself.

Château de Pierrefonds – built in 1393 originally and then destroyed in 1616 by louis XIII, was rebuilt in 1857 by Viollet le Duc. This is a fantastic place to spend an afternoon. The best day to go is on a Friday, as the town of Pierrefonds has its weekly market in the morning, make sure you get there early as most French markets have finished by 12pm. After the market there are many patisseries and restaurants to have some lunch and then head up to the Château when it opens at 2.30pm. It costs €7.50 for adults (over 25) or free for anyone under 25 (with identification to prove).

When you get inside the castle you can pick up a leaflet from a stand just to your lefthand side, which tells you, in all languages about the castle and its history. One of the best things to see are the crypts, in 2013, there will be an exhibition down in the ‘Caves’ showing you the likenesses of the dead, these include a few kings and cardinals.

The main attraction of the castle, apart from being beautiful, is that ‘Merlin’ the BBC series is filmed there during the summer. The cast and crew are always welcoming and many actors happily take photos with the guests.

During high season there are guided tours of the castle in English. The daily times vary throughout the season so be sure to ask your Al Fresco rep for more information about this or the many other exciting days out available to you during your holiday.
