Sandcastle Mayhem at Marina di Venezia! - Thomson Al Fresco Blog
Life was just beachy at Marina di Venezia on Tuesday 14th August. People of different ages, different nationalities, boys, girls, Mums and Dads all came together to dig for victory on our beautiful local beach, everybody was shore to have fun!
The aim: sandcastles. The result: masterpieces!
The first finished sandcastle was a classic fortress design, complete with a bridge, moat and guard and it won the ‘Most Realistic Castle’ prize.
And whoever said ‘Never Smile at a Crocodile?’ We had an amazing friendly crocodile who drew a big audience of nearby sunbathers.
Next we had a sand-volcano with slimy seaweed lava which took the ‘Most Seaweed on a Sandcastle’ prize.
There was also an entire sand-village with tiny sand-people, which won the title of ‘The Most Castles in one Castle’.
And of course, we can’t forget this incredible cruise-liner sand-castle. Whatever floats your boat! They decorated it with pebbles which some competitors thought might be a hardship but it looked brilliant.
Luke, 7, from Nottingham helped to build the Volcano Sandcastle, ‘I was project manager and I went shell hunting. It was fun, I wish I could stay on holiday for longer!’
After a fun afternoon on the beach, competitors went home with their Al Fresco sun-hats and gold medals, to relax before the next Summer Games event!
So grab your buckets and spades, get your swimming costume on, sea kelp from Mum and Dad and come and compete in next year’s Summer Games Sandcastle Competition!
