Market at Château des Ormes - Thomson Al Fresco Blog

Chateau des Ormes Market Locally grown produce at the market at chateau des ormes campsite

A taste from the market at chateau des ormes… It’s Tuesday afternoon on Château des Ormes campsite in Brittany and I find myself down at the bar using the Wi-fi. Suddenly, out the corner of my eye, I notice crowds forming outside. I take a closer look to see  that it’s market day.

When I have completed my admin jobs I decide to take a stroll over to check it out. Outside I see two other Al Fresco reps heading over so I join them.

The first row of market stalls include sweets, honey, soap and shoes. We then turn the corner to be greeted by the aroma of bunches of fresh garlic, olives and cured sausages. The smell of the authentic French delicacies fill the air and we walk further on intrigued, to see more goodies.

The market at chateau des ormes has stalls arranged outside the onsite store and restaurant grill. A chef from the restaurant had set up a BBQ on which he was sizzling sausages and burgers for customers to buy, adding to the already delicious smell in the air.

After taking in the views and smells of the beautiful food we decided to head back to light our own BBQ. We couldn’t leave without buying something from the market though. So we returned with a selection of olives to sample whilst the coals got hot enough to cook on.

The olives were a delicious accompaniment to freshly baked bread from the onsite store and made a perfect starter to our BBQ.

The market at chateau des ormes runs every Tuesday starting in the late afternoon and running into the evening. The market is fairly small although you are spoilt for choice as each stall brings something new and different to the last!

The stalls are different to those seen in Combourg and Dol de Bretagne so if you’re staying at Château des Ormes don’t miss a  leisurely stroll through its market and pick up a few tasty treats!  If you have visited any other markets in the area let us know what they were like below!
