My Trip To Australia - by Halle Greenston aged 9

This is our next entry for our Young Travel Writer competition. Only a few weeks left to get yours in. Good luck!

In December 2011 my family went on a really exciting trip with 5 super stops – Hong  Kong, Australia and Singapore.

Whilst in Hong Kong, we really explored. We went on a glass bottomed cable car and took a tram to the top of the Peaks. The view was magnificent, showing all of Honk Kong. From the cable car we saw a giant Buddha, the second largest in the world. We also visited a religious temple and Disneyland – that was great!

Next we went to Port Douglas which is near the Great Barrier Reef. We snorkelled over the coral seeing incredible animals including clownfish, jellyfish and lobsters. The next day we went to the Daintree rainforest where I learnt how to make poison darts! We saw colossal trees and so many species of plants. We had lunch in the forest and afterwards swam in the river (we had drunk the river water for lunch!). After we visited an ice-cream factory where they grew the fruit and then sold 4 flavours of the day which were wattle seed, macadamia, raspberry and mango.

Next stop was Melbourne, here we visited Healsville Sanctuary where we fed kangaroos, saw koalas, wombats, bats and a Tasmanian devil! On the way back we drove through the Yarra Valley and had lunch at a winery.

Stop 4, Sydney. We flew in a seaplane seeing the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. We also went to Bondi Beach, Darling Harbour, Mrs Mcquaries Chair. New Year’s Eve was spectacular, on a river taxi near the Harbour Bridge we saw the amazing fireworks.

The last place was Singapore, a very clean city. We took an open top bus tour and ate dinner at the top of the tallest building there.

A holiday to remember forever…..
