Castell Montgri, Costa Brava (Part 2) - Al Fresco Holidays

Lynda, our campsite courier on Castell Montgri, continues her account…..

From the French border down to Tossa de Mar

The coastline is unspoilt and easy to drive around. Even in July and August the traffic is steady, enabling you to explore any day. Two hours away is Barcelona. You can also visit the football stadium of Barcelona and see inside the ground and the Football Museum.

Aquadiver Waterpark is only 24km away for a great day out for the family.

The Medes Islands, which look on to l’Estartit is famed for caves which made a refuge for pirates for centuries. You can take a boat trip to these islands from the harbour, and hear the stories of the pirates and the many shipwrecks caused by the Medes. You can also meet the mediterranean fish, face-to-face, scuba diving.

If all this travelling around is not your cup of tea, you won’t be disappointed or bored at Castell Montgri. This parc has 3 large pools, one of which allows swimming until midnight. From here, the views are breath-taking. Entertainment every evening, day-time Fun Club, 2 restaurants, take-away, snack-bar, 4 bars, a disco, open-air cinema every night. A large well-stocked supermarket (not overpriced), souvenir shop/newsagent, football pitch, mini golf, tennis, trampolines, internet. The list is endless!

The campsite is on different levels. From the top, Castell Montgri offers a unique view over the islands of Medes and the Bay of Estartit, but of course, your heart might beat a bit faster on the way up!

If you were like me, and unsure of the area, I hope this changes your mind. The holiday-makers I have met come back time and time again – with Al Fresco, of course. I seem to have persuaded Pauline that this area really is worth a visit. Perhaps I can tempt you as well.

And if all this is not enough, the best thing is….

There are NO mozzies! Honestly!

Hope to see you soon! Lynda (and Keith of course)
