Chateau Des Ormes, North Brittany, My experiences by Ali Evans - Al Fresco Holidays

Ali Evans has written an amazing blog for us, we love hearing about all your holiday stories. See Ali’s Al Fresco experience below:

“We took our very first Al Fresco on a holiday parc in Brittany in 2005 and were immediately converted – since then we have visited many Parcs in Spain and France.

“Last year I booked late and kind of had to take what was left; normally we like a site on or very near a beach but it was not to be. What came up was a site called Chateau des Ormes in North Brittany – what a find!

“The weather was pretty good for us – the days seemed to last forever with the sun going down behind the pine trees at about quarter to ten. There was plenty to do, whether you took the option of joining in or not – when we heard shows coming from the circus-like big top across the site I enquired as to whether anyone wanted to go and join in, the answer was a resounding “no thanks” as they were all chilled with a book, knocking shuttlecocks about or listening to ipods!

“There were a few pools to choose from – although we tended to stick to the main outdoor one on the site, there was a smaller one behind the restaurant which stayed open a little later and wave pool and lazy river that were just on the othe side of the site next to the stables. The shop was well stocked and sold fresh croissants every day but if you needed more provisions it was a short drive into Dol de Bretagne to one of the larger supermarkets.

“By far the most popular attraction was the pedalos on the lake, we went on them at least once every day and my youngest daughter’s heart-shaped sunglasses are still languishing in the water there somewhere, be careful how you get out! The restaurants on site sold the usual fayre but we tended not to eat out much, instead we bought meat at the supermarket and fired up a barbeque for the first time ever on a camping holiday!

“There was a large games room which was full of families and plenty of things for you to waste your money on! My husband and I attempted a game of pitch and putt, but I found it a bit unnerving having people follow behind me, I kept thinking I was going to get a doink on the head with a golf balll; the game wasn’t helped by a helpful French lady who picked up my ball at one point and threw it back to me. One evening we went for a wander and discovered the treehouses on site that can be booked for a night or longer – I met a couple of people who had booked a night in one and said it was great fun.

“My only real niggle about this holiday was the fact that it wasn’t near a beach, the beaches that could be reached in about half an hour were fabulous, but the parking was a nightmare – one day we drove all the way there, couldn’t park then drove all the way back! Some day trips were a resounding success though, the trip to Mont St Michel was amazing and like something out of Harry Potter, I have a feeling J K Rowling must have visited at some point as it was just like Diagon Alley! We also had a trip to the Aquarium at St Malo and that was great too. I really liked Chateau Des Ormes and would definitely go back, the site has a really nice feel to it……. I think I can feel another Al Fresco holiday coming on!”
