Cycling in Les Landes forest – from Sylvamar - Al Fresco Holidays

Rikki and Julie, our Al Fresco Reps on this site, have given us instructions for one of their favourite cycle routes. As always, care must be taken when cycling, even when following cycle routes, but it is a lovely way to take in the scenery.

The 9km cycle route from Yelloh! Village Le Sylvamar to Capbreton Plage is great for all the family. It easy going for the novice cyclist and picturesque. Depending on fitness and pace, it will probably take between 30 minutes and 1 hour. After exiting the campsite and turning right, you come to the bridge over the river in less than 100 metres, and take the riverside cycle track to your right.

With the river on your left you will pass the many species of tree in the largest forest in France. If you are lucky, you may also see some of the wildlife of the forest: birds, lizards, squirrels, and even deer.

Turn right at the concrete bridge, and follow the ‘sign’ for piste (track). Pass the campsites on your left and right, and at the crossroads, turn left.

Crossing the wooden bridge will bring you to the outskirts of Capbreton. You have to cross a few roads to stay on the cycle tracks, but just keep following the signs for La Plage (the beach).

When you reach the seafront you can reward yourselves with a plat du jour (dish of the day), glace (ice cream) or just a boisson (drink) at one of the many restaurants and snack bars along the promenade.

And don’t forget that if you cannot bring your own bicycles, you can rent them from the campsite at 11€ a day for an adult bike, and 8€ a day for child’s.

Bonne route! If you have a minute, please let us know how you go on.
