The Vendée - Al Fresco Holidays

The Vendée is situated along side some of the best beaches in France, and is far enough south for visitors to enjoy warm weather – the perfect holiday combination!

Boasting some of Europe’s finest beaches, especially along the golden coast ranging from St Jean-de-Monts to Marennes, the Vendée is the perfect setting for gorgeous sea and sand to join the sun!

With some of the best waves in France and the world surfing championships sometimes held here, the beaches of the Vendée aren’t just for sunbathing. In fact, a round of the surfing Championship de France is being held on 11th-13th June this summer. Perfect for teenagers to find a new skill, and it’s never too late for the parents to give it a go either! For the younger ones, or those looking for a more relaxing time canoeing, sand yachting and jet skiing are also on offer along the coast.

The Vendée is famed for glorious seafood, especially mussels and oysters. Despite oysters being the region’s main speciality, head to the markets and you will see pork rillettes, paté and sausages galore! Partner with a local wine, often rosé, to enjoy food the local way.

While staying here, the choice is yours to head back in time or visit the future! Choose from Le Grand Parc du Puy du Fou, a theme parc full of Gladiators and chariot races, with three centuries to visit and four medieval shows to see, or Futuroscope, a cinematic sci-fi attraction boasting 3D cinemas, virtual reality simulator rides and the latest communications technology.

The Vendée boasts the best of both worlds with bustling fishing villages jam-packed with local atmosphere, yet just minutes away a far gentler rural pace of life is apparent, fitting for any family holiday’s requirements.

With three parcs in the area, Clarys Plage, Sol-a-Gogo and La Garangeoire, there is plenty of opportunity to experience the Vendée. With the vast facilities and activities on offer when staying with Thomson Al Fresco – everyone will be able to find their perfect spot.
